Google is preparing a new assault to the laptops as it is making a new Chromebook Pixel. The first model was just a demonstrator of the capabilities of the Chrome OS and a thousand plus dollar notebook. Instead of a cheap and affordable machine.
Now the Internet company is preparing a new charge into the high specs laptops with a new Chromebook Pixel. According to the latest rumors Google is advancing for the launch of the next model.
The report comes from Renee Niemi – a Global business leader in Google, accounting for Chrome and Android. She reportedly mention that the new Chromebook Pixel is under way in an event in San Diego. Google really fast shut down the video from the event, but the site OMG!Chrome! obtain a transcription of it. Interesting fact – most websites misspelled the Niemi’s name as Nieme.
Here what Niemi said:
“We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don’t make very many of these — we really don’t. And […] our developers and our Googlers consume 85% of what we produce. But yes, we do have a new Pixel coming out.”
There have been rumors for a new Chromebook Pixel from a while, but now Niemi gives some small glimpse, that they are plausible. Noted that Google didn’t confirm this report yet. Also keep in mind that the company shut down the video pretty quickly.
The first Pixel has really good tech specs, high-resolution screen with touch capabilities and it costs around $1300. But the power of the Chromebook is in its affordability. One thing is a laptop with a $300-350 price tag. Another is a $1300. This will be the reason why a new Chromebook Pixel will have some problems to lure the consumers.
The only chance for a market success is to introduce really high specs for a lower to the competitors price.
Plausibility of a new Chromebook Pixel – 70%
