In its invitations to the press media distributed today it outlined a curve like the curved screen on the side similar to the Galaxy Note Edge revealed in the late 2014.
The invitation doesn’t reveal more details of the device, but it is clear that Samsung is going to show off its new Galaxy S model. The event on 1st of March in MWC Barcelona is named The Galaxy Unpacked 2015.
One or two
Still there is a big possibility for Samsung to unveil two models and the Galaxy S6 Edge is just one of them. The other is more probably be with a traditional screen and one idea cheaper. Those rumors are reinforced by a leak of the prices and the different model types.
First the Ditch unite of Vodafone dropped in its site code, that Samsung will introduce two types of Galaxy S6 Edge and normal S6 model. After that another leak suggested both variants will come in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB with a detailed price listing in EU.
- Samsung Galaxy S6 32 GB: 749 euros
- Samsung Galaxy S6 64 GB: 849 euros
- Samsung Galaxy S6 128 GB: 949 euros
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge 32 GB: 849 euros
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge 64 GB: 949 euros
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge 128 GB: 1049 euros
It sounds a little bit a lot at first glance, but those prices are without telecom’s subsides and included VAT. But in Europe those prices are normal for high-end handset, so they looks very plausible.
The introduction of two models is also a safe action to Samsung. Those users who will not like the Edge form factor can easily pick up the normal one.
Galaxy S6 Edge features
The edged screen will be used as a quick access to apps and additional functions. It can provide more controls to the user, but it is a little bit unusual in the beginning.
Also the new Samsung’s flagship is expected to house new CPU and the speculations are that the South Korean company will ditch Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 in favor for its own chip.
Other rumored features are 5.1 high resolution display, 20MP camera and possible wireless charge capabilities.
